Description

There are many reasons why dysphagia can occur. Some causes are neurological issues, congenital and developmental conditions, obstructions, muscular conditions, head or neck injuries, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and age.

This dysphagia awareness training is for care staff and aims to provide you with an awareness of what dysphagia is and how to support an individual who may have a swallowing disorder.

By the end of the course you will:

  • Understand the signs and symptoms of dysphagia
  • Know the causes of dysphagia as well as how to test for it
  • Have a good understanding of providing assistance for someone with dysphagia.

You are required to complete all the chapters in this dysphagia training online in order. Upon completing all chapters, you will be able to return to any of them in any order to refresh your learning. At the end of the course is an assessment containing 15 questions.

You must answer 12 questions correctly to pass. If you fail to answer 12 or more questions correctly, you will be given the opportunity to try again. Upon successful completion of the assessment you will be able to access your certificate.

You do not need to complete the course in full in one sitting. If you exit a module part way through, you will be able to return to the same point when you next log in.
